Autumn leaves swirl as if in a vortex within a spherical glass vase, while light swirls, reflecting and refracting as it interacts with the glass and the water.

The title “The Mystery” hints at the passage of time, while the rich autumn colours for red and yellow are synonymous with reflections on mortality and the changing of the seasons.

The process of preparing a setup for this painting started when I collected some leaves from my local woods. I then went through a few different ideas before deciding to present them in water, which has been an idea that I’ve returned to again and again, partly because supports the leaves filling three dimensions, and also because it brings out the natural colour of the leaves and creates all sorts of exciting and unexpected visual effects.

The overall effect is, a meditation that will enhance your home and that can be viewed again and again to sooth and inspire.
